i see what you're trying to say, but the reason he wants to opt out and re-sign, is because the wizards are the team that can offer him the most money out of any other team. i don't know exactly how it works but the no other teams can offer more money in a max contract than the wizards. that's why he's stated he wants to stay. and its not about him not honoring his contract, he has honored it. thats why teams but options in contracts so when a player/coach gets to a certain point in their contract, they can opt to make more money if they have earned the right to do so. chauncey billups did the same thing last year and nobody got on him about it so why is everyone hounding gilbert calling him a traitor and being selfish??

You see that second to last sentence you wrote... there is my problem w/ that bamma. He DOES NOT give a fuck about you me or anyone who's name is not on that paycheck... so he cares about winning enough to keep the best player on that team there. that just means he's slightly smarter than Kobe was about 3 years ago. He probably doesn't wanna end up like gerald wallace, puttin up 20 somethin a game but nobody cares cuz the team sucks. This does put him in a better position to get paid way more than he deserves in a few years, but it doesn't give the team any opportunity to improve itself through free-agency or anything. And what happens if he doesn't like the deal he gets from the WIz? What if he gets a better offer somewhere else? Do you really think he won't take the money? C'mon, this is not peyton manning getting a restructured deal to keep his team together. The best thing he could've done for this team is keep hittin that gym trynna rehab that knee in the offseason and tellin everyone he'll honor the contract he signed and try to be a better player next year...

oh boy. lets get the facts straight before we go and try to act like we know whats going on. first off, gil said LAST YEAR that he was going to opt out so this isn't any new news. so the point about honoring the contract after an off year is defunct, because the decision was already made. second, he is opting out for insurance for himself which, from his standpoint is a smart move. you may call it selfish, i call it genius. the man knows he is getting old and wants to secure his future NOW before anything else could happen to him. third, he has stated many times he wants to come back and one of the main stipulations is that the Wizards need to re-sign Antawn before him because he is looking out for his man. gil even said that he would take a pay cut to suffice the re-signing of Jamison. and all this nonesense about draining money to the burbs?? what!? do you remember what chinatown looked like before abe pollin brought the verizon/mci center to dc??? it was a dump. nothing there. once the Wiz got good and gil came and starting bringing in that money, the whole neighborhood grew to a place where people like to chill. before no one ever wanted to go down there unless it was for the annual car show. how did gil bamboozle anyone? he tried to come back playing on one knee! he had heart. went out there and did what he could and when he realized he was just hurting the team and couldn't really help out, he shut it down. even if he doesn't come back he will still be one of my favorite players because he isn't afraid to do whatever the hell he wants without caring about what anyone else thinks. but back to my original point, lets get the facts straight before we try to pass judgement

As an official and admitted hater of the Wizards (and several other "DC" franchises), I am torn over this issue. On one hand it completely justifies and supports my theory that these teams do NOTHING for our city and do not care about the city or the people in it. I am not a fan of the Wizards because they sucked when i was growing up and I never saw a correlation between supporting my city and rooting for these bum ass teams that really don't have much to do with my city. Gilbert Arenas has made it clear that he thinks the world revolves around "agent 0" and that we should be kissing his feet for playing in my little city. Fuck him. He clearly used DC as a stepping stone towards building the biggest ego of all time. He doesn't stand for anyone or anything other than himself. Honestly i think y'all should be happy to get rid of him because the best player on that team, also the highest paid player, Antawn Jamison will get a chance to do something other than play second fiddle and official rebounder for that bamma. Even if he does come back, that was a bitch move not to honor the contract after having such a terrible year. They could have traded him mid season to improve their chances in the playoffs but they had faith in him like i know a lot of y'all did. He let the team down, he let the organization down and most of all he let down all the people he bamboozled into believing in him.

And I don't wanna hear none of that shit about reppin the home team cuz they reppin the city or whatever. As you can see, they don't give a fuck about anything other than that pay check. I've never let my city put me in a corner on anything and I'm damn sure not gonna let some overpaid fantasy sports fanatics decide who my favorite players should be. My favorite player is Joe Smith. The maryland Man-child from norfolk VA that fried EVERYBODY in college and went No. 1 overall after his sophomore year.
Bottom line, I'll support these home teams when they do us right. All they're doin is draining the money out of the city into the burbs... just like everybody else.
