wale x ucb x blu @ s.o.b.’s was historic.

i got a text on my way home from NY today from my man AP.

“that was my first time seeing ‘le live. but i feel like last night was an artistically historic occasion.”

well said.

wale killed it. blu killed it. fresh daily and the a-ok crew killed it. in fact, somebody find me some more of their music, immediately. PLEASE. skillz and talib were straight. jazzy jeff was DJ’ing for a hot second. but the headliners rocked that show like mr. nas vegas aka deep v neck tee assassin rocked people on the basketball court in our high school days. it was bonkers, like that show that used to be on disney.

let me stress this: go-go has never been accepted by the masses. before july 14, 2008, it was strictly a DC thing. rarely did people outside the DMV appreciate it. those who did appreciate usually swagger jacked it for beats and gave no credit to the go-go influence.

last night was a different story. every single member of that uncalled 4 experience band had the sold out crowd going crazy. new yorkers were groving to those pocket beats, swaying to those percussion filled jams. i know other blogs are grabbing those clips of wale rapping, but we already know the man can rap. so i need to give some shine on this drummer who damn near brought the entire house down. feel FREE to swagger jack this clip, cuz it’s crucial and i know you know it.

Wale x UCB @ S.O.B.’s. slump on the congos! from DCtoBC.com on DC to BC TV.

in addition to backing up wale’s set, UCB gave a go-go 101 tutorial, hitting every classic from “sardines” to “sexy lady.” i feel like this is a power combo, and wale should rock with these dudes @ every show. among the best hip hop show i’ve been to in my life, behind only lupe in atlanta, and kanye’s GITD tour.

check the crucial pics out after the jump.

wale x UCB. tre, what up!

i told skyzoo his last 4 verse on “hacksaw jim duggan” was the best thing since sliced bread. and then he rapped it right there in front of me. i just wished they performed this. he’s a G.

spence and i exchanged a few words with this guy, and concluded that he is the chillest dude in hip hop.

skillz was ok. talib was cool.

they used to throw this man out of houses in bel-air.

mr. fresh daily!

If go go blows up and finally goes national. thank wale to a large extent. but this is the real equation:

wale + go go + co-sign from a white hipster dude = go go becoming ‘cool’ on a national level.

why didn’t i think of this before. white folks (and in general people not from the dc urea) seem to not be able get down with that rhythm. but when jazz, rock, and hip hop were finally caught on by white people, that’s when it blew up, peaked, and then sort of ended. i’m talkin’ reckless. take that and run with it. the next few years may be very interesting to watch.

    FUCK WALE!!!

Thats what I used to say to Modi everytime he brought his name up…I even said that Wale wasn’t going to get off the DC blocks…but Modi kept putting me on when I didn’t want to be put on…First song I listened to was “Dig Dug” and I was skeptical at first…but then I was at a party with Modi and other DC cats at Harvard and they put it on..and of course people started beating their feet…And I enjoyed and loved it, I became a fan, put up some DC signs…I have every mixtape (I think) and my favorite song is “The Hacksaw Jim Duggan” and of course Modiman put me on…So I would like to say thank you…its good to see a rapper that doesn’t forget where he comes from, no beef with others (not that i know of) and can actually spit some hot shit…

BTW I’m from NY so thats why I was so negative towards Wale…thats all i got…yzr
