Monthly Archive for September, 2008
you thought i forgot about my area!? you must be crazy. this is the september edition of the monthly DMV series. and every month just gets a little better. it feels good to hold down the area via the internet, you know? shout out to ges and dylan , as well as everybody who we featured this month. for the skeptical, here’s a taste test, courtesy of my man X.O.

school has me strapped for time to make any deep, introspective entries. so instead, i’m throwing you a deep, introspective track from david banner. probably one of the best songs i’ve heard from him, ever. it amazes me that he can make great music, regardless of whether it’s ignorant or intelligent. this is the latter. enjoy. thank shake of 2dopeboyz for this joint.

DL: david banner - when you hear what i got to say
don’t think he’s getting too soft or anything, though. like i said, he can give you that fist-in-palm music (think “knuck if u buck” / lil scrappy stuff), too. take this, for instance.

DL: david banner - might getcha (feat. lil jon)
oh boy. vintage banner, from 2003. makes you wanna just kick someone in the face, doesn’t it?

"just cuz i rap doesn’t mean that i won’t put a hole in a p**** a** n**** like you!"

remember this guy? that’s the homie j. cole. i wrote about him a while back, and a bunch of you all really liked his music. like i said before, he reps fayetteville, NC as hard as fresh prince reps west philly. and he’s pretty much the next hip hop power move maker. he even makes his own beats. like this joint.

incredible, right? right. well, my girl elle of let’s just eat cheese chopped it up with jermaine, and the interview is extra thorough. everything from music to nostalgia for those college days to his goatee. and so much more. the writing is very impressive. on the professional tip. she writes like she works for vibe or something. ha. enjoy.
for misfits only: lights please (j. cole interview)
and i know you liked the song, so indulge.

…the laser gun carrying, milky way master. that’s atlanta. see me out there from the 8th - 12th. i gotta thank twitter & dan the man for these joints. like i said, if you’re in the A and you need a ticket, you can win one somewhere on this site. just delve, you’ll find it. figure out where you can get your tickets here. see y’all bammas out there.
oh, and janelle monae is opening for this joint. she has just climbed the charts of my brain to the top, man. wowzers.
kidz bop is CD series that features all the most popular chart topping singles, re-recorded for a younger audience. no more bad words, and no more negative imagery or suggestive themes.
whoever made this idea up is making bank; in a day and age where people struggle to go double wood, several of the kidz bop albums have hit gold-selling status. so much so that they recently were able to afford to shoot some music videos. just watch what they did with sean kingston’s “take your there”:
the lyrics in the hook have changed to “we can go to the slums / where killers get hung” to “we can party in the sun / chill and have fun,” and everybody’s ok with it! wow. for those who never saw the original, click here to really see how drastic the difference between the two videos is.

better late than never. could be the best episode yet, too. and he leaves detroit in the first like 10 seconds. LOL. featuring asher roth, ludacris, robin thicke, laurie ann gibson (choreographer, probably most famous for her work on diddy’s making the band, and a slew of fly ladies.

in the spirit of the elections, i needed to throw this joint up. what could they be talking about?
jacked from $ulaiman from blind i. click on the pic for a special treat.

you know what time it is.
i know i’ve been semi-neglecting music from the DMV as of recent, but it’s because i’ve been waiting for this event. it’s finally here. it’s the one year anniversary of the biggest producer showcase in the DC metropolitan area. everybody who’s anybody from the urea will be out there, but i don’t need to repeat the same $#!t that’s already all over the flyer.
i was at a beatdown event over the summer, and it was insanity. if you make rap or make beats, PLEASE do not fake - this is where you need to be tomorrow. don’t believe me? my man austin (he was in that roberta flack video!) got to the semi-finals in the competition, and the next week was selling beats for $300 a pop to some dudes who heard him there.
oh, and check us out - official sponsors of the event, along side my fellow blog homies (wzup ges , wzup dylan ). it feels good to have your logo next to one of the most crucial clothing stores around. SHOUT OUT TO MY DUDE OVEROK , as well as ALL THE DUDES OVER @ INNER LOOP FOR COORDINATING THIS AWESOME EVENT! and judah , WHAT UP!
starts @ 9, ends @ 2:30.
and contrary to popular belief, SEXY GIRLS FREQUENT EVENTS LIKE THIS TOO, so get ready to spit that game. or get game spat to you. whatever you fancy, for real.

detailed agenda (location, time of events, etc.) after the drop.

editor’s note: this mix right here!? you have no idea how this series inspired me. it dropped a year ago, and my dude $ulaiman of blind i for the kids (the best music blog around) blessed me with the re-up of this super mix. confused as to why it’s so crucial? read away.

Whoa! I’m proud of myself. Four, yes FOUR discs full of super-sexy, ultra-flirtatious, luxuriously-loving, filthy-fucking songs! I dug all the way through my extended catalog of slow jams and picked the best ones possible to add to these compilations. What I ended up with was 50 (yes, 50!) songs of which I really wanted to make a compilation out of. I tried to leave off some of the super OBVIOUS joints that are on EVERY compilation out there (D’Angelo’s Untitled, H-Town’s Knocking The Boots, random ass R. Kelly), and focus on the four themes/stages of intimacy where this music is helpful: Flirting, Sex, Fucking, and Love.
I know we all fall under at least ONE of those four categories when we’re getting in the mood with our significant others, and my intent through the organization of these is to allow you to pick which mood/situation is closest to yours. I recommend you grab ALL of em, however, for as we all know, the best intimacy is spontaneous, and you don’t wanna be logging onto Blind I while your lady/mans is getting undressed and ready to get it popping.
I mixed a bit of old with a bit of new…a bit of soul with a bit of OOH!. I’m so cliche, please forgive me, but I feel like out of all of our compilations offered here, this is the most universally appealing and is SURE to get it going when you need it to. And it all blends perfectly….
Have fun. Use protection . And get EVERY DISC. DL links and tracklistings after the drop!
"Grab a Red Bull and sip that twice…
Now ya’ll can have $exytime, it’s nice!"

i just had an amazing interview session for a feature writing course, and was inspired to re-up this. while reviewing my notes, i came across a critical tactic in the art of interviewing: impress your interviewee with a knowledge of facts. in other words, show them you’ve done your homework.
well my man nardwuar takes this tidbit to heart. just watch. around 1:39 it gets crazy, and at 1:55, you will laugh. very hard.
he’s done much more interviews with an array of celebrity figures, too. check nardwuar out here. how old is this guy though? i’m just saying. coolest canadian i’ve ever seen, regardless.
