the great progression - self-discipline.

yeah, man. post #2 in this new thing i like to call the great progression. i’m about forward progress, and you should be too.

self-discipline. probably one of the hardest things to achieve. not sure how to define it? look at the picture above. see those dogs just posted up while they check out that cat strolling on by? that’s self-discipline at its finest. i don’t really need to say much more than that, but i’ll expand a bit.

wikipedia defines it as "denying oneself of an extravagant pleasure in order to accomplish a more demanding charitable deed." you know what this means; passing on a trip to cold stone creamery and making a trip to the gym instead. talking to that one dude or dudette as opposed to scanning the roster and rotating subs in and out. refraining from splurging on bottle service at the club and staying in the crib to work on that paper due next week. i will admit, as a young and dumb college kid, i rarely have self-discipline. i know a few of my homies out there have the same problem! i’m no preacher. i do know, however, that when you resist temptation and stay focused on your goal, victory feels that much better. right now, my tactic is this: i don’t cut my hair or shave until i get my homework done every week. thoughts!? i’m just trying to get like one of those dogs above, man. come join me.

think about that, and download slim thug’s “ashy to classy” here.

m1 platoon - we not them, part one [the mixtape].

i’ll give you an idea of how good m1 platoon is.

i sent this mixtape to people in an email before even posting it. meaning i didn’t care that they got it from my site. i just wanted them to hear m1. and i swear to god this joint is incredible. nothing sounds like this at all. if you appreciate GOOD HIP HOP, then m1 platoon should be in your iPod, iTunes, boombox, car stereo, and every other place you can jam some music.

you haven’t heard about these dudes? well, they’re a rack of homies (most of which are from DC. just throwing that out there) who go to school out in north carolina, and who happen to have 9th wonder, producer extraordinaire, as their professor. i’m not even lying. so with 9th as their mentor, imagine what kind of music they create. in fact, you don’t even have to imagine, because i got it all for you right here. featuring biz markie, carlitta durand, g5 clive, and savin. oh, and huge shout out to vaughn aka arafat yates, one of the rhymers/producers in the squad. one of the few guys who gets really excited about music in general. i respect those kind of cats out there. without further ado, i’m throwing you the mixtape, complete with taste tests.

and i honestly struggled giving you 3 samples, because there’s too many joints on this mixtape that are must-hears. i’ve never heard such improvement from one mixtape to another. lyrics, beats, overall cohesiveness. damn. THIS SHIT IS INSANE! i’ve never heard anything like it. that’s probably why they called this joint “we not them.” good grief. i’m hyped. everybody needs to enjoy this. and if my words didn’t move you to download this, then click the link and see how many people already have got it. that’ll probably move you a bit. ha. wzup scoopay, chopps, sean d, c4 black, napalm…i see all you guys.

11.18.08 - what should i get on netflix.

i know this is borderline abusing my privileges as the owner of this site. but i really need to put 10 solid movies that i can abuse on the macbook during thanksgiving break, and even over x-mas break. so just leave suggestions and brief synopses of movies (if they aren’t typical joints that everybody and their grandma’s heard of). i’m for real. everybody can add something to this list, so just throw the suggestions out there. maybe we’ll have a nice little dialogue pertaining to movies and such. ha. thanks! and i like it all, so don’t think i won’t consider musicals, documentaries, foreign films. actually, fuck a foreign film. i have no time for subtitles.

let the games begin.

tomfoolery in NYC.

more randomness. this time, we ran into the famous cross dresser that runs the times square area. check him/her/it out. starring bun b, nick simmons, JG, and me.

fear and loathing in new york. again.

nyc summer, man. got so cold, i HAD to re-up. funniest clip of all time. internet goon, wzup! catch shawn and darrell, aka the brothers grimm, creeping up in the background.

the carps - heaven’s gates & hell’s flames [redux] [feat. the cool kids].

the first time i heard the carps was on my man lo’s love unlocked compilation mixtape he dropped last month. they’re a duo from canada that makes some vicious rock-esque music, and i’m down with it. the beat is ridiculous. if you heard just the instrumental, you’d think it was something from kanye’s new album. the cool kids add one of their more potent verses on this redux of "heaven’s gates & hell’s flames," too.

my man seun threw me a video of their track “from compton to scarsboro,” and it’s pretty awesome. partially because I’M IN IT. yerp, around :45, listen and watch closely. you may just hear my name.

i just picked up all their music, so if you like what you hear, e-mail me and i’ll send you some more. it’s not free, so i can’t put it up (or the RIAA will rock me). but if you holler, i’ll throw it your way.

entourage - season 5, episode 11: play’n with fire [HD quality & streaming]!

we’re back. thank reading aka ms. "i run the comments section" for this gem.

season 5, episode 11 - play’n with fire

synopsis: despite dince killing himself to film a pivotal scene for “smokejumpers,” verner - who never wanted him in the first place - fires him from the movie, which forces ari and aana gordon to bring the uncompromising director in line. after receiving an unexpected call from jamie-lynn sigler, turtle goes back to L.A. to spend the day with her. while he doesn’t reveal this to the guys, he does tell jamie-lynn a well-kept secret.

as usual, it’s in HD quality. that’s hella dope for you suckers.

mf doom - hoe cakes x red and gold.

it’s sunday. and i figured i’d put a few people on to a very eccentric rapper. his name is MF doom, and he wears a mask, never revealing his identitiy to his fans. people only know him as MF doom. there’s not too much other info out on him. all i really know is that he’s from NY, but resides in rural georgia somewhere. he records, he performs occasionally, and he has a cult following. he’s an acquired taste, but if you like kool keith / dr. octagon / that kinda stuff, you’ll like this guy. his beats are ridiculous. i’m throwing you two craaaazy joints, so check them both out, and if you like, do your research and pick up some of his other stuff, or holler at me and i’ll hook you up. enjoy!

goodness. a much necessary post. it’s almost friday.

bo yo knows.

yup. bo yo knows. simple as that. this massachusetts-bred rapper/folk artist/whatever the blood you wanna call him is the new power move maker. he’s slick and witty, and has bars for days! is it a joke? probably. is he nice!? hell yes! he can play instruments like a monster. shout out to marlon for putting me on. watch these joints.

did he just do that all in one take!? he’s great. hilarious. creative. insightful. kind of. and is he the same dude who made the free credit report songs? somebody let me know.

new gap commercial, starring an assortment of random celebs!

stole this from J.D. at hiphopupdate :

I must say, this is an interesting Gap commercial right here. Now, Gap always gets celebs and music artists in their ads, but the lineup is pretty odd right here. We’ve got Sandra Bernhard, Janelle Monae, Jon Heder, Rainn Wilson, Selma Blair, Trey Songz, Dixie Chicks, Freddy Rodriguez, Romany Malco, Flo-rida & Jason Biggs.

Dwight Schrute aka Rainn Wilson gets it in right there. You already know these people got paid generously to appear. How many times do you think Flo-rida’s been in a Gap?

sarah palin is STILL dumb as rocks [update].

wow. this is horrible. LOL. if mccain won, it woulda been a wrap on the world. literally. so to all you mccain supporters, think about if your president took a L (aka died). he’s 73. he may not have made it all the way through! then you woulda had this crazy woman! she DIDN’T EVEN KNOW AFRICA WAS A CONTINENT! NO JOKE! shout out to my boys vince and big mike davis for putting me on.

UPDATE: a sassy commenter threw this my way, so i figured i’d share it with y’all: those palin quotes about her not knowing africa was a continent and such were FALSE!!

but still, she’s dumb as rocks. listen to her speak. there’s no way i’d be happy with her leading our country.

[DC to BC exclusive] blast off mixtape, vol. 2: mcfly.

yerp. mcfly is here. inspiration? lupe fiasco’s “mcfly” and nando mcflyy, a dc native and ferocious wordsmith, both of whom are featured on this. what’s it about? it takes over where the first joint left off. sure it was about that charisma on vol. 1. but now it’s about that swag. they make you ask yourself, “how fly are you?”

and don’t stunt on this compilation, you know don’t have all of these songs. there are classics as well as exclusives on this joint, and everybody can appreciate it.

UPDATE, nov. 13: i heard this joint went down. so i’m re-upping it. everybody should scoop this and jam it. shout out to everybody who got it the first time around. enjoy.

click the artwork (or here) to download.

tracklisting:

1. lupe fiasco - mcfly
2. mighty joseph - legend (could be the most insane beat on the album. produced by madlib. trust me.)
3. michael jackson - off the wall
4. wiz khalifa - say yeah

6. olivierdaysoul - in my spaceship
7. devin the dude - zeldar

14. sa-ra - starwarz
15. janelle monae - violet stars happy hunting (cyber-hop remix)

21. slim thugggaaaa - this is my life (the album CLOSER. it just fits, to me.)

dom kennedy feat. carter and pacific division - everybody knows us [video].

saw this over @ my boy ges‘ site today. good grief, this is the illest thing of the day. made me happy for some reason. they rock it on that everybody nose bridge that curren$y killed on this track. i’m just glad people realized that those N*E*R*D bridges make all their songs about 30 times sweeter. but yo, don’t think the rappers don’t each murder their verses! dom hits ‘em with that 1-2, pacific division holds down the middle section, and carter wrecks the last verse. it’s wild.

they are throwing some subliminal and not-so-subliminal jabs out there! listen closely, and somebody find me some more music from that dude carter!!!
