inner loop records presents: the beatdown!!!

you know what time it is.

i know i’ve been semi-neglecting music from the DMV as of recent, but it’s because i’ve been waiting for this event. it’s finally here. it’s the one year anniversary of the biggest producer showcase in the DC metropolitan area. everybody who’s anybody from the urea will be out there, but i don’t need to repeat the same $#!t that’s already all over the flyer.

i was at a beatdown event over the summer, and it was insanity. if you make rap or make beats, PLEASE do not fake - this is where you need to be tomorrow. don’t believe me? my man austin (he was in that roberta flack video!) got to the semi-finals in the competition, and the next week was selling beats for $300 a pop to some dudes who heard him there.

oh, and check us out - official sponsors of the event, along side my fellow blog homies (wzup ges , wzup dylan ). it feels good to have your logo next to one of the most crucial clothing stores around. SHOUT OUT TO MY DUDE OVEROK , as well as ALL THE DUDES OVER @ INNER LOOP FOR COORDINATING THIS AWESOME EVENT! and judah , WHAT UP!

starts @ 9, ends @ 2:30.

and contrary to popular belief, SEXY GIRLS FREQUENT EVENTS LIKE THIS TOO, so get ready to spit that game. or get game spat to you. whatever you fancy, for real.

detailed agenda (location, time of events, etc.) after the drop.

party @ stussy DC.

friday, august 22 is not just another midnight sneaker release. it’s actually the official grand re-opening of Stussy DC, featuring new pieces for the fall season. you need to stop by if you’re in town. they got music, entertainment, food, drink, all that good stuff.

shout out to everybody who works there and shows me any sort of love, even though they know i never really buy anything. and another shout out to the guys @ real mango juice, because i just feel some sort of super affiliation with stussy/cmonwealth dc, and it’s only right that i acknowledge those dudes. tastemakers, i call them.

you already know i’m broke. but i may be there to support, though.

DC fab’s anniversary!

DC fab is the hookup on the local scene. if i want to know where to go in the DMV area, i hit my homie joi-marie up and she puts me on where i should go. her site is one of many, collectively known as the fab empire. check them out to see if they cover your city.

these fabulous, sexy girls of DC fab have just reached their 1st anniversary, and to celebrate this joyous occasion, they’re running the DC metropolitan area from tonight until sunday. check the flyer below for all the details.

spread the word. oh, and i heard ladies get in for free before 11 or something like that. i don’t know exactly, you’ll have to hit DC fab for all that, plus that secret location on friday!!! see you there. they told me they’d buy me drinks all night if i put this up, so i’m definitely going. lol.

CNN’s black in america continues tonite.

CNN is continuing their black in america series tonight with a special on the black man. more info:

“in the “The Black Man,” Soledad O’Brien evaluates the state of black men in America and explores the controversial topics of black men and fatherhood; disparities between blacks and whites in educational, career and financial achievement; and factors leading to the dramatic rates of black male incarceration. The documentary also examines the achievements of black men and the importance of the positive influences of black fathers. Premieres in HDTV on Thursday, July 24, 9 p.m. ET”

watch it, or at least throw it on that TIVO.

oh, and lupe’s apparently on it, says his latest myspace bulletin.

he’s my favorite lyriciss.

you may not have known this, but young lyriciss flowz has been grinding for a minute. so hard, in fact, that 20-year old wordsmith has attracted attention from the likes of DC representers and bloggers across the nation, including the infamous 2 dope boyz. once you get that kind of love, you’re pretty much on the road to success.

the new mixtape, the hope, dropped earlier this month, and it’s in current rotation in the iTunes. i like gritty rap. don’t think you’ll be hearing murder murder and kill kill, either. he’s not embellishing or glorifying that street life in the slightest. just talking about how he lives his life. rhymes for days, flows for days. guess that’s how the kid got his name.

click the cover (or here) to get the mixtape.

bonus!

download: lyriciss - kinda, i rock (cool kids flow)

oh, and catch me, him, nando, and some other cool dudes in NYC this wknd at the grungecake crisis mag house party in queens. hopefully i’ll chit chat it up with the girlĀ  whose picture is on the web site, because she’s pretty sexy. oh boy.

you’re invited, too.

nick simmons’ BET debut @ 8 pm!

whose that guy? it’s my homie from back home, fellow power move maker, and future business partner, nick simmons. the man is interning @ BET this summer and has a HUGE, huge day today. he sent me a message today, and i felt like i needed to share it with the world. talk to ‘em, nick.

Ok so here’s the scoop. Our 100th episode is airing tomorrow night at
8:00 PM on the dot on BET. Now the show is called The Black Carpet and
its kinda like BET’s version of Entertainment Tonight and Access
Hollywood and all those types of shows. Its hosted by Danella (The
sexy broad I wanna get with. You should watch just to see the dress
shes wearing GOOD GOD) and Toure and Egypt and Tocarra are
correspondents. They are also gonna show the infamous hell interview
between Toure, Bow Wow and Omarion, where Bow Wow went off and on
Toure and went crazy. Now, my role ont this episode is i wrote a nice
little verse celebrating the 100th episode to the A Milli beat. So i
have my own little “music video” somewhere in the show either the
beginning or end. I’m not quite sure yet. Regardless, its a big deal,
well for me at least. I’m getting some damn shine!

wowzers. an overnight celebrity, may i ask? set those tivos for 8 pm, pronto. this isn’t nick’s first attempt at fame, though.

yes, that was DCtoBC.com’s quinn in the video too. ladies, if you can’t get enough of the wonderful mr. simmons, there are more pictures after the jump. Continue reading ‘nick simmons’ BET debut @ 8 pm!’

wale x ucb x blu @ s.o.b.’s was historic.

i got a text on my way home from NY today from my man AP.

“that was my first time seeing ‘le live. but i feel like last night was an artistically historic occasion.”

well said.

wale killed it. blu killed it. fresh daily and the a-ok crew killed it. in fact, somebody find me some more of their music, immediately. PLEASE. skillz and talib were straight. jazzy jeff was DJ’ing for a hot second. but the headliners rocked that show like mr. nas vegas aka deep v neck tee assassin rocked people on the basketball court in our high school days. it was bonkers, like that show that used to be on disney.

let me stress this: go-go has never been accepted by the masses. before july 14, 2008, it was strictly a DC thing. rarely did people outside the DMV appreciate it. those who did appreciate usually swagger jacked it for beats and gave no credit to the go-go influence.

last night was a different story. every single member of that uncalled 4 experience band had the sold out crowd going crazy. new yorkers were groving to those pocket beats, swaying to those percussion filled jams. i know other blogs are grabbing those clips of wale rapping, but we already know the man can rap. so i need to give some shine on this drummer who damn near brought the entire house down. feel FREE to swagger jack this clip, cuz it’s crucial and i know you know it.

Wale x UCB @ S.O.B.’s. slump on the congos! from DCtoBC.com on DC to BC TV.

in addition to backing up wale’s set, UCB gave a go-go 101 tutorial, hitting every classic from “sardines” to “sexy lady.” i feel like this is a power combo, and wale should rock with these dudes @ every show. among the best hip hop show i’ve been to in my life, behind only lupe in atlanta, and kanye’s GITD tour.

check the crucial pics out after the jump.

bk hip hop festival.

yeaaaaah. me and the squadron were also present @ this event. shout out to kai for sneaking us in there and cising us with press passes. we came a little late, but we were still in effect. guess who we ran into?

yerp. that’s right. the freestyling fiend, charles hamilton.

ready for war, as usual. first things he said when we rolled up on him was, “there’s more music to come,” and “yo, do any of y’all spit? i’m tryna go. right now.” and he wasn’t even smiling. that’s the kinda attitude i like. moments later i saw him frying bammas like plantain in some flow sessions. that footage should be on youtube soon. good grief, he’s worth the hype in my book.

even herfection was in the building. kind of. she had some goons on camera patrol, and came out with some solid footage of mickey factz’ set, which was in my opinion the most original and live. we just gotta glue his glasses on to his face so they don’t keep almost falling off. ask lupe for tips on that. footage & more after the drop.

[show] red ink @ santa fe cafe!

for everybody in the DMV:

the incredible rock n’ soul band red ink performs friday, june 27 at santa fe cafe in college park, MD. yeah, that’s right. that spot right next to the 7-11. i’ll be in the house, as well as my goons. yikes. that sounded so lame. as well as a few of my homies. definitely come out and support them. i hear that their live show is INCREDIBLE.

i know you need a taste (no brokeback, RIP heath), so check them out.

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 6 or above) is required to play this audio clip. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

download: red ink - let it go

if you liked that, they have plenty more hits where that came from. hit them on the myspace to hear more. their set comes on around 11ish, so a little late, but it’s friday. and they got specials for days to get you nicer than mrs. doubtfire. or than the shy guy.

so essentially, friday night = santa fe @ college park night. a perfect way to segue into the carribean day festivities in DC. let’s get it. and get your vocab up. go look up segue on dictionary.com. educated out here. if you scared, go to church.

[show] christian rich in dc!

my cousin put me on the other day, and i’m happy he did. their music is really out of this world. their sound is unique, and they can flow a little bit too! the versatile chi town-based duo (of twins. nigerian twins. that’s what i’m talking about.) is hitting DC tonight and tomorrow, and i’m definitely making the power move. so fresh had a solid interview with these dudes, so check that out here.

i know you probably don’t know who these guys are, despite their deep resume of tracks for everybody from the clipse to foxy and lil kim, so i’ll toss a few loosies at you.

christian rich - my famous girl

christian rich - the schemer

exaaaaaactly. so now you need to know when and where you can catch them in action, don’t you?

6/14 - dekka showroom @ 3PM (no way you’ll make it. it’s already like 2:30. sorry.)

more jams on the myspace. if you’re tryna make the move, let me know.

c’mon! x n*e*r*d listening party.

it’s a bit late, but me and the homies hit up commonwealth dc this past friday for an intense N*E*R*D album listening session. they played the entire thing, and then threw some oldies but goodies in there too. shout out to everybody who came through, including that dude dizzy, who went out of his way to get me a heineken! ice cold like andre 3 stacks was talking about in “hey ya! good grief. talk about dmv hospitality. he even said he reads the blog, so at least we got one celebrity reader.

now, i know we aren’t celebs or anything, but with keba and her super touch screen sony digicam, and sean’s HUGE camera that i’m sure the cameramen on “the real world” use, we set it up so that everybody there thought we were important. truth be told, sean and my man austin were shooting a low budget music video around the area, and they just so happened to be in the area. sean was like, “let’s just start shooting,” and you know me. down for whatever. so we went with it. we ran into the biggest N*E*R*D fan i’ve ever met in my life (she kept her ticket stubs from N*E*R*D concerts dating back to like ‘04 in her wallet. she wins by default). she came from bristol, VA (if i remember correctly) to hear that entire album. she also came SOLO! i had to dap her up for that. on camera. so me and sean talked to her for like a good 5 minutes and came out with some hilarious footage that will be on the site soon.

everybody was watching us like we were famous, and it was great. anyway, enjoy the pics below, courtesy of young keba.

and those gourmet joints are the wettest sneakers out. contrary to popular belief, i only have three pairs of shoes, and i don’t go out the house partially because of that reason. somebody bless me with a goodwill/salvation army drop. immediately.

roland x inner loop records presents chop it up!

(note: if you’re not in DC right now, this post is worthless. go read the other stuff below this post to be entertained.)

the dmv won’t stop pushing until they are recognized as a place that breeds hip hop. the dudes over at inner loop, along with their sponsor roland, decided to take things a step further with a crazy exclusive producer showcase. first of it’s kind as far as i’ve heard. the 3 day extravaganza pops off today, and goes until saturday. it looks like it’ll be pretty solid, and features a whole lot more than just a mere beat competition. some celeb appearances, some major label head honchos, some interesting panels, and some nice parties. if you’re in the music thing, this is your weekend to shine.

click the pic for more info.
