huge shout out to my man jamie for putting all of this together. check the GW sophomore out at funkadelic freestyles .

R.I.P. shakir stewart.

damn.

i remember when me and brian were up in that small ass cubicle at def jam, and shakir walked past. i was being stupid when i yelled, "i wanna work for you shakir!" and he turned around and laughed. nobody in that building was that chill, and you already know who i’m talking about when i say that. people wouldn’t even want you to hop in the elevator at the same time as them. he was the guy who would say, "yo, hop in here son!" so although i didn’t know the guy too well, i did work in the A&R department and i know he was vital to that building. he brought us acts like jeezy and ross, and with that track record alone you know the man had talent. coolest dude in that place, without a doubt. i feel like it was some other $#!t that led to this fuckery, though that’s just me…

that’s all i’ll say about that. rest in peace, sir. and shout out to def jam during these times, man. they work hard over there. if you didn’t hear, read the billboard article.

i need your help!

i need feedback so i can make the site smoother. so everybody who reads this, comment. i don’t care if you’ve never commented before. give me feedback. and while you’re at it, tell me what sucks about the site, what could improve, and what is done well. be brutally honest, no sugarcoating. this is for real, and to prove it…

…we’re not writing anymore posts until we get at least 50 people talking out here!!! and that’s real!!!

YEAH! so get commenting. look at this like a e-focus group. please. PLEASE! thank you.

want war?

“i’m a peaceful, rolls-royce driving, black john lennon.”

i’m on chill mode again for a minute. less updates. i’m working on some stuff. but hit the archives to stay occupied. if i don’t see some comments or some type of activity on some old stuff, i’ll be a little blown. ha, but really, check it all out, spread the good word to your people, all that good stuff. there are some gems lost among the 50-something pages of archives.

also, hit that blogroll, because those are the people who held me down from the get-go.

give me a few days, i’ll be back to normal. enjoy the halloween weekend, and look out for some cool stuff dropping very soon.

rock the vote!

my dad hit me with a email today reminding me to register to vote. with all the commercials and prompts everywhere reminding young people to get involved in the 2008 election, you get a little jaded and numb to those commercials.

so i figure i’d diversify the method of communication and urge you to rock the vote via DC to BC. it’s so easy - take it from the #1 procrastinator in the business - and it takes like 3 seconds of your time. click the image above (or here) and get started.

TODAY IS THE LAST DAY TO REGISTER FOR SEVERAL STATES, INCLUDING DC, FLORIDA, AND GEORGIA.

for my maryland representers, we have until oct. 14. but get it over and done with NOW! and absentee ballots, guys! HUGE. you hear about them, but you may not really know what the deal is with those bad boys. don’t trip, it’s all good. read up on them here.

need to know if you made the deadline for voter registration? can i vote tells you whether or not you’re registered yet. it’s easy for those not so politically inclined, i promise. i logged on to can i vote, and to my surprise (literally) i was already registered to vote in the state of maryland. i put my brother’s information in, however, and saw that his sucker self hadn’t gone through the proper steps to get himself registered. that’s why the site is amazing.

e-mail me at info[at]DCtoBC.com with any questions, and i’ll try and help you out using my resources. and homies. ha. oh, and to figure out the voter registration deadline in your home state, check below.

anyone who knows me well knows i used to work with a nice little company called college hunks hauling junk when i was home on summer / winter breaks from school.

R.I.P. / get well soon.

too tragic. my bad for not giving this story the proper attention earlier. read the story here .

we won that black weblog award. thank you.

yeah, we were ready. and we won it. thank you all for the support. we brought that award home like it was a few bags of groceries. only cuz of all of you guys, so i just wanted to say thanks.

look out for that radio show, and that videocast/podcast taking over the internet soon.

oh yea, and if you comment more on our site, we get more love in terms of hits on google and stuff like that. which helps us get more hits in general, which helps us get more people that support us, which gets us more love in general. so keep those comments coming, we appreciate those, too.

oh, and like i said before, anybody whose trying to help us out with anything from videography to graphics to keeping us informed with stuff to blog about (that’s the key joint right there), let me know. thanks again, and we’ll holler at you soon.

thank you for getting us nominated!

editor’s note: voting ends in like 3 days. might as well re-up this post while things on the site are a little slower.

you gotta play this song before you read this post. mandatory.

had to throw this joint up, because the reason DC to BC got two nominations is because of you guys. we’re officially on the finalists ballot for “best new blog” and “blog to watch,” two huge categories.

the black weblog competition runs until august 31. if you support us, definitely take a minute and click one of those pictures to hold us down with a FINALIST vote. i know, i know. this is the second time we’re making you hit the voting scene. but we promise, we won’t let you down at all in the next coming academic year. big things are planned, and we hope you guys will be there to see it all happen. thanks again.

p.s.: shouts out to the fab empire and PFOP for their “best blog community” and “music blog” nominations, respectively. you have to fill out every single category when voting for the finalists, so make sure to vote for them, too.

i need music for august’s DMV mixtape!

listen.

i need all my DMV (DC, MD, VA) artists to hit me with tracks for the new installment of the DMV mixtape that my man dylan and i started last month. this joint needs to be heat, and needs to be something that the entire city can ride to. i need everything by THIS MONDAY. so tell your homies who make any type of music that i need to see what they’re working with. i’m tryna keep it to like 18 tracks…i want it to be like a CD size. no double disc stuff. so even if you know i know of you, it won’t hurt to throw me a reminder to check the music you sent me before.

and if you don’t know about the last one, 2dopeboyz and hiphopupdate, as well as various other crucial blogs out there co-signed it. so we are just trying to help put on our area, and with your help and talent, we can do it.
