roc nation’s first signee, j. cole, has released his highly-anticipated mixtape, the warm up. you probably typed in “j. cole – the warm up mixtape” in google and came across my site first. why? it’s cuz i had it before the masses, the johnny-come-latelys, the hop-on’ers. somehow, some way, i finagled a copy of it before the masses. don’t underestimate the little blogger.

this could be the best mixtape of the year. everybody’s been saying how hip hop has been on the steady decline, and there’s nobody out there bringing that fire like back in the days. i’ve jammed it just once. a few of the tracks were leaked earlier this year, but those who are on the fence about his ability to make a good song or the hype surrounding his name will be silenced, and quickly. jam this, and spread it to the world. i’ll bless you with one sample for those unsure of the man’s skills. the download link is below. enjoy.

j-kwon is back.

just some hump day swag music for you guys. a whole lot of punchlines from the guy who disappeared after that incredibly well-produced (and therefore pretty damn entertaining) hood hop album. almost every song was a hit.

the last verse in this is pretty smooth. this is off hood hop 2.5 (when did hood hop 2 come out though!? i’m just saying.) i don’t know who nikki is, but she definitely got smacked. you heard it here first. i want to see this man come back into the game. is it too late!? let me know what you think, and jam the track.

my god. i’ve been looking for lil jon for years. crunk juice was the best trunk volume since project pat’s mista don’t play or crook by the book. yeah, i know my music. i honestly didn’t think LMFAO would have more than one jam that i could thump, but as of now, they’re a-ok in my book. party music, that’s what it is. so appreciate it for that. some crucial call-and-response in there, too. this is a wekeend starter, so maybe i’ll repost it on friday.

big sean has been on deck for a minute, but recent acquisitions to ye’s G.O.O.D. music imprint had people thinking he didn’t have his shit together. well, you all thought wrong. the mixtape dropped a month or so ago, and his mouth is back in people’s mouths like good gossip.

two tracks. first one came out recently, and the second one was supposed to be on the mixtape, but whoever put the final files together forgot to drag it into the folder. no joke. they are both ridiculous, and you should become a big sean believer after jamming both of them. can’t wait to see what beats skateboard p is cooking up for him.

X.O. decided to take one of the hardest tracks to come out of the DMV ever (”go hard, featuring the homies pro’verb & lyriciss, if you missed the video, please watch here) and…well, go even harder on it. he bogards the track, ripping all three verses and putting on for the city that i used to drive 30 minutes into every day to go to high school. look out for X.O.’s studio 43 debut, monumental,  produced exclusively by A.B. The Producer in late june. it’ll be as monumental and as hood yet space age as slim thug linking with skateboard p for already platinum. just watch.

oh my god. when this dropped a couple weeks ago, i didn’t pay it too much mind. then i listened again. he is on another planet. kid cudi just moved up on my list after this joint. this is true zombie music. in fact, you know what it reminds me of? that scene in i am legend where will smith is in the abandoned building looking for some zombies, and comes across a group of them in a circle facing each other, hopping up and down (doing god knows what). that was the most demonic scene i’ve seen in a while. in fact, take a look.

lupe fiasco is perhaps my favorite rapper. in 2006, his naturally eclectic self decided he needed to do something extra innovative to show the world exactly how far ahead of the rap game he was.

so he took rock/hip-hop/awesome ass virtual band gorillaz…

…and himself…

and created lupe the gorilla, a primeape that bodies gorillaz tracks like they’re helpless bananas, ready to be devoured. OH BOY! 8 songs, all potent, regardless of length or subject matter. it doesn’t get more brilliant than clever concept-esque mixtapes, dudes. especially when nobody knows about you. this is from two years ago, and i still consider it better than almost everything else (in the rap genre) that has come out since then. don’t let me tell you, though. listen to a sample, and if you dig, grab it.

damn, chip. now this is $#!t talking at its finest, if nothing more than that. cleveland’s new poster boy is improving with every track i jam. his perma-cold voice is unique, and it grows on you.
