tabi bonney - you.

nah, this joint isn’t new. in fact, it’s from ‘06 or so. he has a video for it. and it’s below. but i wanted to let people see it, because not that many people ever caught it on MTV jams like i did back in the day. and this is how i feel right about now.

i was talking to somebody about having a soundtrack to my life, you know? like you walk around, and music related to the situation just starts playing. it beats an iPod, because you don’t have to search. it’s just exactly what needs to be played at that very moment. maybe i’ll work on developing that technology soon. but for now, just look out for my compilation mix joints. it’s the next best thing that i can offer.

if you liked the song, here it is.

the kenny burns show! “greetings from dallas.”

more kenny. “yeaaaaah!”

if you need more kenny in your life, catch the first episode here. it’s hilarious.

the kenny burns show! “greetings from LA.”

DC’s own kenny burns started a vicious podcast known as the kenny burns show, and he just keeps it so funky and original that i needed to post this. he’s funny, too. tabi makes a bunch of appearances in the joint, too. i highly recommend watching this entire episode when you get a chance.

oh, and best believe he’s a DC to BC supporter, too.

tabi bonney - kick rocks (produced by judah)

oh boy! tabi goes all in on this  joint. probably the most fierce i’ve heard him. on some boss status $#!t. i’m a fan. the beat, produced by my man judah, is craaazy! shout out to major to throwing it my way.

marky & tabi discuss “sheila” video shoot.

tabi bonney is once again stepping behind the camera to direct the hit single “sheila” from DC’s newest talent, marky. i feel like this joint was a summer anthem at every cookout, barber shop, house party, and club back home, but i haven’t been there to confirm.

youtube is a hell of a marketing tool. like he said, shooting begins downtown in DC, august 10-11. all sexy ladies, please make an appearance. if not for his sake, for mine. i’ll be down there posted. marky, i need air footage! or a drop or something! if you stay on DC to BC, you’ve already got some marky in your itunes. if you’ve been sleeping, it’s ok. i got you.

and if you want to know what else is on tabi’s mind besides directing these days, check our our exlusive DC to BC interview here.

but i’m not done. don’t you guys think that mr. markyalago…

looks eerily similar to BC’s star wide receiver, #18 (and featured in the DC to BC banner on the top of the page) rich gunnell!?

brothers, cousins, something like that. i’m just saying though.

5 questions with DC’s own tabi bonney.

i got a chance to chop it up with DC’s tabi bonney about a few things that aren’t typically asked in Q&A sessions. although the west african-born rapper/director/fashion guru is fairly new to the spotlight, don’t get it twisted; he’s been putting people in the pocket for a minute. with videos (one of which was nominated for a VMA) all over MTV and VH1, a high end fashion line taking over boutiques across the globe, and the swag and charisma unmatched by anybody you or i know, tabi’s enjoying life these days. enjoy.

what means more? fortune or fame? or is there something else that tops it all?

i can honestly care less about the fame. i’m really a behind the scenes type of guy and don’t like alot of attention, so i would obviously pick fortune. but the thing that tops it all for me is happiness and freedom. freedom from working for somebody.

preach! what kinda cell phone are you working with these days?

the new iPhone. had it the day it came out.

shoulda gone with the blackberry, man. speaking of which, is there anything crucial on your wish list? gear wise, ambition wise, etc.?

i wouldn’t call it a wish list, more like a goal. my next goal is to hit the 1 million dollar mark.

damn. i hear that. i’m tryna get there myself. seems like you’re already on the way. what’s it like working in both fashion and music, anyway? is there preference?

my first love is music, then film, then fashion. it’s great though. it’s like visually creating your own world and environment and having your own soundtrack to go with it. imagine being on malibu beach with a girl wearing your shirt - bonney runway, that is - and hearing your music in the background!

haha, you got it all planned out, huh. dream job? i’m doing it and living it. and i don’t even consider it a job!

and there you have it. tabi is currently working on his follow up effort to his debut LP, a fly guy’s theme. buy it here. he’s the dude in the DC to BC banner holding up the “run DMV” shirt. go figure. jam a little, why don’t you.

[video] mambo sauce - welcome to dc [re-up].

i’m putting this up again because it was overlooked, and because the dc music scene is insane right about now. bubbling in a pot, brewing and stuff, young. trust me.

shout out to young nando mcflyy who made it on the myspace monday segment of 95.5 last night. even bigger shout out to quinn, who hooked it all up. more on this later.

my homies over @ DC fab told me that DC’s premier go-go band, mambo sauce, celebrated their video’s acceptance into the VH1 soul rotation. i’m pretty sure it’s on MTV2 and probably MTV jams. only a matter of time til it hits TRL. oh boy.

pretty huge move for DC, honestly. almost as big as when ludacris performed pimpin’ all over the world with a go-go band on one of those award shows, or as when lil jon came out with that go-go record with funk flexx on that crunk juice album. it adds that visual to the entire scene.

we through the remix up (featuring tabi, wale, and more) lightyears ago on the old blog, so if you want it, hit me. too lazy to throw it up right now. i did get that video though. low budget, but incredible. don’t just watch, though. listen to what they’re saying in the verses. one of the rare go-go songs with some potent, original lyrics.

bladaow.

[audio] lloyd feat. tabi bonney and lil wayne - all around the world (remix)

wowzers.

tabi bonney aka DC’s flyest guy on the scene bogards lloyd’s new single, and proceeds to kill it. listen:

you heard it here first. shout out to kerel aka mr. power moves, he put me on right after he heard it premiere on the 95.5.

tabi’s back on his DC $#!t.

yea, the coolest man’s back. and just in time, because i was getting a lot of hate from some anon’s on my own post about the celtics below. good grief! just know that i came away from the celtics game with $80 in my pocket. and furthermore, i will not lose. thank you.

show ‘em how to do it, tabi! he takes it to togo, west africa, for this joint, “cool & fly.”

isn’t it a pity that i have to say “togo, west africa” as opposed to just saying the country name? nobody knows where togo is but me and all the rest of the west africans. it’s next to benin, if you don’t know. that fatty sean kingston can go on stage and say jamaica and everyone knows what he’s talking about. how come black people don’t know africa well? one day i’ll write a paper on the tacit animosity of africans and african americans. or blog about it. and we’ll see what kinda response i get.

thoughts about the video? or anything else in life? should i have more updates? do you even read this? is anyone out there even listening?

i’m on mars.

that’s how i feel. another planet. nobody’s mind works like mine, i feel.

two glow in the dark tours in two days. and all i saw was kanye each time. AND a hurricane/tornado each day. good grief. and def jam will kill me cuz i wasn’t even able to throw flyers around to people @ virginia beach. oh boy. and by the way, DC is like 30 times cooler than VA beach. that’s why nobody stays there anymore. that’s also why all the best music comes from there. missy. clipse. the neptunes. timbo. because there isn’t a damn cool thing about that place. and everybody is slum. now i know what UVA people mean when they get unhappy about the 757 “locals” frequenting their parties.

i’m bout to sleep. work in the AM. a few things though:

- what ever happened to haley joel osment? do we realize how great he was in the sixth sense?

- is DMX ok? he is 37 going on 60. he looks older than my grandpa in his two (1, 2) recent mugshots, from this month. drugs, speeding, and michael vick’ing his dogs. dag, man. looks like 5-0 threw him around a little bit, too. i heard he went down like a G, though. if that means anything.

- how did anyone convince sacha baron cohen to make that naked wrestling scene in borat ?

- does anyone purchase anything hip-hop related besides tickets to shows? i doubt it. that’s why everybody has a clothing label, a book label, some type of label. i’m late, but i still realize it.

- is tabi bonney the flyest guy on the map or what?

and what happened to all the supa hair he had!? tabi, send me music! PLEASE! click on the pic to hear what he’s blessed the world with so far. and i feel like he’s wearing all his own clothes.

i realized earlier today that i want to live like a celeb. with a celeb status wifey, but like, in tune to the real world. like she doesn’t need high profile events to have a good time. she likes family and friends more. that’s how i feel j. lo is for some reason. when i live that life, i will purposely not respond to the texts i get from people i used to text who never responded when i needed them to.

i bet i don’t wear a suit unless it’s by choice, either.

good night.
